October 26, 2018 - Pumpkin Carving Event

– Pumpkin Carving Event (October 26, 2018)

t is the start of a new school year and the Graham Bruce PAC wishes to welcome all the new families, and returning families, to another wonderful learning experience at Graham Bruce Elementary School. With sunny weather guiding everyone back to the 2018/2019 school year, Graham Bruce’s Parent Advisory Council (“PAC”) members have been busy brainstorming to think of ways to help not only the school, but also to help raise funds which would ultimately benefit everyone in and around the school.

Like busy bees, your PAC members worked hard to put together Graham Bruce’s first ever Pumpkin Carving Event. The turnout for this event was amazing! Families from Graham Bruce and our community neighbours from Collingwood Neighbourhood School came to join us in this fun filled evening.

There were sounds of shuffling and banging as the volunteers helped to set up tables and decorate the gym. Smells of popcorn, baked goods, and hot chocolate lingered as they were placed on the concession table. Car doors slammed as our Sponsor came to deliver the pumpkins to the school. Little children poked their heads out of the class room windows to see what all the noise was about, as if Halloween came early.

The clock struck 4 pm and a line up of children and parents were stretched outside of Graham Bruce’s gym doors. The doors finally opened and people went in to sign-in and pick up their pumpkins. Sitting at the sign-in table were volunteers from the neighbouring high school, Windermere, and Graham Bruce’s own PAC member, Anjula, who calmly registered everyone and handed them their pumpkins. Feets pitter pattered into the gym and the carving began!

Graham Bruce’s own principal, Mr. Sean Marlyn, marveled at the smiling faces of many happy people eager to share in their creativity in carving out their best pumpkins! Young siblings wondered around the gym as the high school students handed out Halloween candies at the sign-in table. Many parents were seen scrapping and cutting their pumpkins to help their young children. The smell of fresh cut pumpkins lingered in the room.

Once people finished carving their pumpkins, young children were seen carrying their work of arts to the pumpkin table to await the vote. All participants were eager to vote and nominate the best carved pumpkins. Everyone was seen as winners! However, only four pumpkins could win.
